Khaitan & Co equity partner Ankur Sangal is set to leave the firm to launch a specialist intellectual property law firm along with members of his existing team, sources close to the development confirm.
Sangal, who has been a key member of Khaitan & Co’s Intellectual Property practice, is expected to launch the new platform in the coming weeks with a focus on intellectual property practice.
Sources familiar with the development indicated that several lawyers from Sangal’s team are expected to join him in the new venture, giving his firm an immediate operational and execution capability from the date of launch.
The move comes at a time when boutique and specialist law firms are increasingly attracting sophisticated mandates from clients seeking partner-led execution and niche expertise in specific practice areas.
The name of the new venture is expected to be announced shortly.
